At a glance: West Kensington’s best pubs
Countless studies have shown that living near a pub and visiting it on a regular basis is good for us and makes us happier.
Social drinking (in moderation) in a friendly neighbourhood watering hole can actually improve community cohesion and individual wellbeing.
Pubs represent the beating heart of our communities, and retain a special place in our collective conscious. They promote positive social interaction, and provide a space where we can feel a part of something.
When in West Kensington, why wouldn’t you pay a visit to the pub? Here’s a short list of our favourites.
Just a stone’s throw from Barons Court tube station is this gem of a local. It can’t be said of many pubs, but the bar snacks here are first-rate – a winning accompaniment to a pint of beer or glass of wine. With its refreshingly colourful décor, smiley bar staff and the Barons Court theatre downstairs, a merry time can be guaranteed by all who visit.
Every Sunday, a roast is served. And it’s the kind of Sunday roast that’s worth leaving the comfort of your own home for. Meanwhile, every Sunday night is quiz night, so if you’re feeling especially knowledgeable one weekend, why not rise to the challenge and wow the quizmaster? You might just win the cash prize.
A short walk from The Queen’s Club is this charming, shoebox-sized establishment. The Colton Arms on Greyhound Road is probably one of the smallest pubs in London. You may need to scramble for a seat, but it’s well worth a visit. The brass-topped bar and singularly ornate wood carvings are an arresting feature of the interiors. This boozer has been a long-time favourite with locals, and continues to be so. The beer selection could be better, but you’re guaranteed a friendly smile from behind the bar, a cosy atmosphere, and a comfortable setting for enlivening conversation. You’ll also find pork scratchings on the premises.
This Victorian inn is just around the corner from the Margravine Cemetery. The secluded garden is a winning feature, while the open fire makes it the ideal place for a restorative beverage on a chilly winter’s day. Classic pub dishes can be found on the menu, and the Sunday roast is always a good bet. The food is unshowy and satisfying, and ales are in plentiful supply. This is a family-friendly pub and a good place to gather with a bevy of friends – the staff are always accommodating whatever the size of your party.
There are other pubs in the West Kensington area, but these come highly recommended by the team at Shaws Kensington. We know about our local pubs, but we know a lot more about property for sale and property for let in West Kensington and the surrounding areas. Get in touch today.
